Dacre Cottage Chairman’s Report June 2012

Past

The last years have been very busy with ongoing improvements being made.

The cottage kept clean and tidy the roof continues to be of concern and little progress with the council, many questions over the ownership of the cottage has been driving me nuts.

Large working bees have been keeping the area sweet and the councils Parks department are being very helpful and supplied another 3000 plants, these are thriving.

The barn has continued to be useful and water tanks are working well.

Pest control has been working well with very few rats seen and no possums this year.

The website is allowing better information sharing. The email distribution system is still working well

The number of over night stays is improving with many schools, scout and family groups using the area.

Daily visitor’s numbers are still high with most Sundays and public holidays being very busy.

The Dacre Xmas Lunch was a huge success with hundreds making the trek and paddle to enjoy the day. A small profit was made for the cottage funds.

The property manager for the Weiti Forrest has been extremely helpful and his efforts have been especially great around the tree plantings.

There are still no houses behind the cottage.

Funds held in the bank account are $3,695.50

Future

We have another planting bee planned for August.  This is to broaden the original planting and to help with sand dune regeneration.

The roof of the Cottage needs work.  The black tar paper and the ‘shakes’ (timber shingles) need replacing along with the guttering.

The inside of the cottage needs a new or reconditioned pot belly/fire place and the walls needs paint.  This cannot be done until the roof is repaired to stop the leaks.

The porch needs the timber repaired and a lick of paint.
